Once I visited Sri Ramkrishna Ashram and requested its manager of book sell department to show me the books of Vedas. He was a Bengali brahmachari trained in Ramkrishna mission. After searching for about five minutes, he kept in front of me a small booklet of some 20-25 pages. It was about Rudra adhyay generally known as Rudri. I told him that in fact I wished for the books of THE VEDAS i.e. Rig, Yajur etc. He regretted for the same.

Meanwhile, Head Sannyasi of this Ashram came to us and asked me what I wanted. When I enquired for The Vedas, instead of properly replying to my query, he asked me: “What will you do with the Vedas?”

I replied: “Books are meant for reading & studying only, Sir. I want to read the Vedas.”

He told me: “Be truthful - that is your Vedas. Be honest - that is your Vedas” etc.

many original vedas are available in Web sites. Also you can read Vedas with
translation, you may skip the explanations which are trash in most of the cases.
